How to Take the Wegovy Pill or Foundayo: Doses and Missed Doses

Doz · October 18, 2026

Facts checked against FDA sources on October 18, 2026.

Take one Wegovy tablet in the morning on an empty stomach, with no more than 4 ounces of plain water, and swallow it whole. Then wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink anything else or take any other medicine by mouth. The dose goes up every 30 days, from 1.5 mg on day 1 to the 25 mg maintenance dose from day 91.

Foundayo (orforglipron), Lilly's daily pill, is easier to fit into a day. You take one tablet once a day, with or without food, and its label sets no water limit and no waiting time.

Doz is a free download on the App Store: it can remind you before breakfast, which is when the Wegovy tablet has to be taken, and you can give each strength its own start and end dates so the reminder moves to the new dose on the right morning. You don't need an account.

The details below are from the FDA labels, revised in June 2026 for Wegovy and July 2026 for Foundayo. If your prescriber has told you something different, go with your prescriber.

How to take the Wegovy pill each morning

  1. Take it in the morning, on an empty stomach.
  2. Swallow one tablet whole with water, up to 4 ounces (half a cup). Do not split, crush, chew or dissolve it.
  3. Use water only. Coffee, tea, juice and milk all count as other liquids.
  4. Wait at least 30 minutes before you eat, drink anything, or take any other medicine by mouth.
  5. Never take more than one tablet a day.

Any other morning medicines wait the 30 minutes too. If some of them have timing rules of their own, ask your pharmacist what order to take everything in.

Wegovy pill dose schedule

Each step lasts 30 days. For someone who starts on Monday 2 November 2026, the dates fall like this:

Days Daily tablet Starting 2 November 2026
1 to 30 1.5 mg 2 November to 1 December 2026
31 to 60 4 mg 2 December to 31 December 2026
61 to 90 9 mg 1 January to 30 January 2027
91 onward 25 mg (maintenance) From 31 January 2027

25 mg is the only maintenance dose for the tablets. If you cannot tolerate it, the label says your prescriber may consider switching you to the Wegovy injection at 1.7 mg once a week. If one of the earlier steps is hard to tolerate, the label also lets your prescriber delay the next increase, so your own dates can run later than the table.

Every step is a different tablet strength, so check the number on the pack when you open a new one. The GLP-1 dose schedule calculator works out the step dates from your own start date and checks a missed dose.

If you miss a Wegovy pill

Skip the missed tablet and take the next one the following day, with the usual morning routine. Don't take two to catch up, because the limit is one tablet a day.

The tablet label has no separate rule for missing several days in a row. If that happens, call your prescriber or pharmacist and ask how to carry on.

Switching between the pill and the injection

Your prescriber decides whether you switch between the two forms of Wegovy. The label sets the timing.

Switching from To Start the new one
Wegovy injection 2.4 mg once a week Wegovy tablets 25 mg once a day One week after the last injection
Wegovy tablets 25 mg once a day Wegovy injection 2.4 mg once a week The day after the last tablet

The Wegovy pill is not the same as Rybelsus or Ozempic tablets, which are also semaglutide tablets. Ozempic tablets come in 1.5, 4 and 9 mg, the same numbers as the first three Wegovy steps. They are separate products with separate labels, and the label for Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets says those two cannot be swapped mg for mg, so a matching number is no reason to treat any of them as interchangeable. The Wegovy label also advises against taking it with any other semaglutide or GLP-1 medicine.

How to take Foundayo (orforglipron)

The FDA approved Foundayo on 1 April 2026 for weight reduction and long-term maintenance in adults with obesity, or with overweight and a weight-related condition. It is not approved to treat diabetes.

The label sets no water limit, no waiting time and no time of day, and Lilly's consumer page says you can take it at any time of day. If you pick one time and keep to it, a missed dose is easier to notice.

Foundayo dose schedule

Each increase comes after at least 30 days on the dose before it, so the days below are the earliest each step can start, and your prescriber may wait longer. The steps above 5.5 mg are not automatic. They depend on how you respond and how well you tolerate the medicine.

Daily tablet When the label allows it Earliest day
0.8 mg Starting dose Day 1
2.5 mg After at least 30 days on 0.8 mg Day 31
5.5 mg After at least 30 days on 2.5 mg Day 61
9 mg If your prescriber increases it, after at least 30 days on 5.5 mg Day 91
14.5 mg If your prescriber increases it, after at least 30 days on 9 mg Day 121
17.2 mg (maximum) If your prescriber increases it, after at least 30 days on 14.5 mg Day 151

The label lowers the maximum to 9 mg for people who also take a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor, a group of medicines your pharmacist can check for.

If you use birth control pills, the Foundayo label advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method such as condoms, for 30 days after you start and for 30 days after each dose increase.

If you miss a Foundayo dose

Take it as soon as you remember. Do not double up the next dose, and never take two doses in the same day.

If you miss 7 or more doses in a row, the label says to restart the dose steps at a lower dose, so contact your prescriber before you take the next tablet.

Setting the reminders

For the Wegovy pill the reminder needs to arrive before you eat, and Doz can time one before breakfast.

For the step-ups, add each strength as its own medication with a start date and an end date: 1.5 mg for days 1 to 30, then 4 mg from day 31, and so on. The reminder then switches to the new strength on the right day. Doz is free for up to 4 medications, so if you take other medicines as well, add the next strength when the current step is nearly over.

Foundayo's steps are "at least 30 days" and the higher ones are up to your prescriber, so add the next strength once you know its start date. Otherwise it needs one reminder a day, at whatever time suits you.

If you enter how many tablets you have, the count goes down each time you log a dose. Doz shows a low-stock warning in the app at a level you choose, so you can reorder the current strength before it runs out. If you would rather your lock screen did not say Wegovy or Foundayo, turn on the free option to hide medication names in notifications.

Doz Pro ($2.99 a month, $9.99 a year or $19.99 once) adds Critical Alerts that ring through Silent mode and Focus, one follow-up nudge 5 to 60 minutes later if you have not logged the dose, and Take or Skip buttons on the notification itself.

1.5 mg a day for days 1 to 30, 4 mg for days 31 to 60 and 9 mg for days 61 to 90. From day 91 the maintenance dose is 25 mg a day. Your prescriber may delay a step if one is hard to tolerate.
