“Three times a day” tells you how many doses, not when. Put in how many, when you get up and when you go to bed, and this picks evenly spaced times that fit inside your day — and shows you where a strict round-the-clock interval would have put them instead.

Nothing you type here leaves your browser.
How the times are picked
If a strict round-the-clock interval — every 12 hours for twice a day, every 8 for three times, every 6 for four — starting from your first dose ends before your last dose time, that is what you get: the most even spacing there is, with nothing overnight.
If it would run past bedtime, the doses are spread evenly between your first and last dose times instead. Every dose then lands while you are awake, and the price is a longer gap overnight. The result shows how long that gap is, so you can see what you are trading.
Times a day is not the same as every N hours
A label that says “three times a day” usually means three doses in your waking hours. A label that says “every 8 hours” means a fixed interval around the clock, and it will sometimes put a dose in the middle of the night on purpose. The full argument is in every 8 hours vs three times a day; for a strict interval, the dose interval calculator is the right tool.
Anchor it to something you already do
Times on a screen are forgotten by Thursday. Times tied to breakfast, lunch and brushing your teeth are not. Once you have the times, pick the daily event nearest to each one and hang the dose on that — or let Doz remind you, with meal-timed doses that move when your dinner does.
Common questions
What times should I take a medicine three times a day?
Spread the three doses across your waking day. If you are up for 16 hours, from 07:00 to 23:00, doses at 07:00, 15:00 and 23:00 are exactly 8 hours apart. If your day is shorter, say 08:00 to 22:00, doses at 08:00, 15:00 and 22:00 are 7 hours apart with a 10-hour gap overnight.
How many hours apart is four times a day?
Strictly around the clock it is every 6 hours, but four times a day usually means four doses while you are awake. Across a 15-hour day from 07:00 to 22:00 that is 5 hours apart: 07:00, 12:00, 17:00 and 22:00.
What times are twice a day?
Usually morning and evening, about 12 hours apart, such as 08:00 and 20:00. Twelve hours fits inside most waking days, so twice a day and every 12 hours often end up as the same two times.
Is three times a day the same as every 8 hours?
Not necessarily. Three times a day usually means three doses while you are awake, and every 8 hours means a fixed gap around the clock. If your label says every 8 hours, keep to the interval and ask your pharmacist before moving a dose.
One thing this cannot do
This is an arithmetic tool, not medical advice. It works out numbers from what you type in — it does not know your medication, your prescription, or what you should do if something goes wrong. Anything about changing a dose, spacing doses differently, or handling a missed dose is a question for your doctor or pharmacist.
